Cowboys win with optimal defense

The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Los Angeles Rams 22-10 and thereby improved their streak in Week 5, moving to a 4-1 record. Dallas’ defense dominated this NFC matchup as quarterback Cooper Rush completed just 10 of 16 passes for 102 yards.

While Rams QB Matthew Stafford completed 28 of 42 passes for 308 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Cooper Rush shone again with seven receptions for 125 yards and a touchdown, but he couldn’t lead the entire team to victory.

The Cooper Rush Show kept going to win over the defending Super Bowl champions. Prescott’s backup extended his team record by winning the first five starts of his NFL career.

Dak Prescott was originally scheduled to return this week, but Rush’s trio of wins has reduced the urgency in rushing Prescott back from his broken right thumb. Rush has completed 60.8% of his passes for 737 yards and four touchdowns, with his most significant stat being zero interceptions. That has allowed Dallas to maximize their possessions and keep their defense from getting into difficult positions. Running back Ezekiel Elliott has rushed for 227 yards, averaging 3.85 yards per carry. Wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and Noah Brown have each topped 270 receiving yards, while tight end Dalton Schultz ranks third with just 80 yards. Dallas boasts a defense that features Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, sixth in the NFL in yards allowed per game (308.5).

“I was surprised by the (five-point difference) because for a minute I thought we were five-point favorites. That’s the way I think of our team. We’re confident that (we can) beat anybody,” headcoach Mike McCarthy said before the game.

The Cowboys will face the Eagles (5-0) next week on Sunday Night Football.
