The former head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Ayotzinapa Case, Omar Gómez Trejo, pointed out that the disappearance of the 43 normalista students in September 2014 had a strong link with organized crime, which used this fact as a form of control of the zone.
In his first public appearance, after leaving the specialized prosecutor’s office, he explained that in the disappearance of the young people there was a co-option of the Mexican State, especially of military members, since of the 83 arrest warrants that were issued, there are at least 20 against members of the Mexican Army.
During his speech at the event Human Rights without borders: Mexico, State terror and US complicity, Gómez Trejo pointed out that Iguala, Guerrero, is a drug distribution center, thanks to the direct connection that exists between the entity and the United States.
On the other hand, the former prosecutor explained that in order to do justice, the victims must be taken into account, since that is the main difference between being any prosecutor and one who really manages to find the truth of what happened.
regret dismissal
For her part, Cristina Bautista, mother of Benjamín Ascencio Bautista, one of the disappeared in 2014, pointed out that when the investigation of the now former prosecutor in the Ayotzinapa case was yielding results, Omar Gómez Trejo was dismissed and threatened with opening an investigation against him.
“Just when the work of the special commission on the case was giving results, thanks to the work of the now ex-prosecutor, they fired him and threatened to open an investigation.
“The responsibility for this lies with the attorney general of the Republic, Alejandro Gertz Manero,” said the mother of the missing normalista.
Likewise, he indicated that the parents of the students do not trust the appointment of the new head of the special prosecutor for this case, Rosendo Gómez Piedra.
In addition, Cristina Bautista expressed that the mothers and fathers of the victims want to know what happened to their children and where they are; she also pointed out that this is the justice they seek.
“For us, mothers and fathers of Ayotzinapa, justice is knowing what happened to our children and where they are, and we are not the only ones who are looking, there are thousands of families who are looking for their relatives,” she said.
Also, he assured that the previous government is still involved in the investigation and that does not allow it to work well to find the truth of the facts.
