Chef José Andrés and his organization World Central Kitchen, winner of the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, are already helping residents evicted from their homes on La Palma due to the volcano’s eruption on the ground. The cook, based in the United States, activated the alert earlier this week to alleviate the catastrophe and also offer food to the emergency services deployed on the ground. The local chef Serafín Romero, the head of fresh products at Spar supermarkets, participates in this work, as explained by José Andrés on Twitter.
Party stew with wrinkled potatoes, sandwiches, drinks … all that is what World Central Kitchen is offering on La Palma, from its central kitchen in Los Llanos and transporting food by van to reach those affected. “It is the first time that we eat hot in an emergency”, thanked two technicians from the Canary Islands Government on Wednesday.
Firefighters, Civil Guard, UME, Local Police, Civil Protection … are also recipients of the help of World Central Kitchen, explains chef José Andrés. This will arrive in La Palma this Thursday, as reported by Radio Televisión Canaria. So far, the organization has delivered up to 600 meals and is deployed in the field 24 hours a day. This is how they will continue while the emergency lasts, according to one of the volunteers in La Sexta.
