A daredevil climber fell to his death from a high-rise building in Hong Kong after last being seen knocking on a window on the 68th floor.
Remi Lucidi, 30, also known as “Remi Enigma”, was seen by a building worker knocking from the outside of the window, suggesting he may have been trapped and asking for help, reported the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
Tregunter Tower, which Mr Lucidi fell from on Thursday, is located in the city’s upscale Mid-Levels area.
The Frenchman had fallen 721ft to his death by the time the police arrived and officers found his camera, containing video of extreme sports. Mr Lucidi, who described himself as a Hong Kong-based photographer, had climbed structures across the world to capture selfies.
According to media reports, Mr Lucidi arrived at the Tregunter building at 7.30pm on Thursday, telling a security guard that he was visiting a friend on the 40th floor, although the resident named has since denied knowing him.
CCTV footage revealed that the climber took the elevator to the 49th floor and then the stairs to level 68 before forcing open the door to the rooftop.
‘Friendly and humble’
The Frenchman had been staying in a hostel in the city’s Tsim Sha Tsui area. Gurjit Kaur, the hostel owner, told the SCMP that he had been “friendly and humble”, adding he was healthy and fit. “I feel very sad,” she said.
Police are investigating whether Mr Lucidi died while practising extreme sports.
His most recent Instagram posts show nail-biting snapshots from towering structures in Lisbon, Dubai and Bulgaria.
In one shot in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, Mr Lucidi is seen balancing on a metal ladder with one hand and one foot while taking a picture of himself with a selfie stick using the other hand – the Bulgarian countryside far below.
His last post, one week ago, shows the Hong Kong skyline from across the rooftops at night, taken from Times Square in downtown Causeway Bay.
Fans took to his account to pay tribute and express their shock and sadness.
“Bro went out doing what he loved! He lived his life fully. Not many can say that,” said one.
