Daredevil is filmed SURFING on flooded road in Santa Cruz as storm dumps heavy rain on West Coast 

A daredevil was seen surfing down the flooded roads in Santa Cruz making the most of the area’s excessive rainfall that slammed the Bay Area this week. 

The viral video of the young spirited surfer, whose was not identified, was spotted in a dark wetsuit wake surfing as he was was being pulled by a black vehicle. On Wednesday, Action Sports Construction posted the video on their Instagram page with the caption: ‘Typical California winter.’ 

The category 3 atmospheric river that struck the Central Coast of California earlier this week, flooded areas of Santa Cruz County and caused major flooding in the Rio Del Mar neighborhood, one of the small villages that form the unincorporated community of Aptos, California.

The area’s heavy downpours dropped 3 inches of rain with some residents waking up to more than a foot of water outside their doorsteps. Rainwater is blocked from draining out through pipes due to nearby Aptos Creek, public works officials said KTLA News reported. 

The Rio Del Mar neighborhood floods near the beach every winter when excessive rainfall hits, and also a time when local surfers are known to grab their surfboards and catch a wave anyway they can get it. While getting their surfing high they are also keeping close eye on Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies that may be nearby.

The National Weather Service had issued a flood advisory for the Bay Area that started Tuesday morning as the region was hit with heavy rain with weather experts predicting another severe storm expected to hit later this week, CBS San Francisco reported.   

KRON meteorologist Kyla Grogan described the system as a ‘parade of storms.’

Grogan reported that ‘one system after the other is set to inundate the Bay Area and a good portion of the West Coast with rain over the next seven days.’

She explained that the storm is an atmospheric river, sometimes referred to as as ‘Pineapple Express,’ ‘because of the moisture plume that extends as far back as Hawaii, that brings successive storms.’  

She cautioned that ‘while the rain is welcome, it also comes with flooding dangers.’

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the entire Bay Area beginning Friday evening and going through Saturday night.

This isn’t the first time a a video like this has gone viral, during a heavy rain storm in 2018, another California surfing enthusiast found a novel way to catch a wave after thunderstorms flooded the local streets.
