Under the above heading, Valerie Rubin wrote in Courier Military Industries about Israel’s willingness to befriend the Arabs against Tehran, and the ambiguity of Washington’s stance on the balance between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
The article reads: It appears that the new US president has a grudge against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The White House has severely distanced itself from the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia. According to Biden, the war with Yemen must end, so the United States stops supporting offensive operations, and threatens to limit arms supplies if Riyadh does not stop killing peaceful Yemenis.
To say that Saudi Arabia and Israel did not like this means that nothing is said. However, Biden is overestimating his potential by disrupting strategic plans to build a new Middle East. This long-awaited decisive process for Israel to normalize relations with Sunni Arabs mixed with the US presidential elections. Trump only needed several more weeks to convince the Saudi king (of normalization).
Most importantly, the rift between Washington and Riyadh occurs as President Biden tries to return to the nuclear deal with Iran on his own terms. According to his advisers, this requires distancing themselves from both the Israelis and the Saudis. Israel is convinced that Biden is seeking to stand some distance from Saudi Arabia as part of his effort to restart talks with Iran and possibly as part of a broader return to the Obama era’s notion of the need for the United States to balance the Sunnis with Iran.
Like Obama, Biden undoubtedly rejects Iranian hegemonic aspirations, but at the same time he is trying to calm Iran down with small concessions. Israel fears that Biden’s desire to place Tehran and Riyadh on one level may force the Saudis to draw close to their eternal enemy, thus leaving Israel empty-handed. However, the opposite is also possible: the US position may increase the size and depth of cooperation between Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. They are concerned about Iran’s ambitions and actions.
