Five demonstrators died this Monday in protests in Arequipa y apurimac who demanded the resignation of the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, which brought the total number of deaths in seven to Peru since Sunday afternoon, announced the Ombudsman’s Office.
“We have reported seven deaths in the Abancay and Arequipa regions” since Sunday, a source from the Ombudsman’s Office told AFP.
Among the dead are three adolescents between the ages of 15 and 16.
One of the deaths this Monday occurred in Arequipa, Peru’s second city, during the police repression to recover the runway of that city’s airport taken over by some 1,500 protesters.
Four other civilians died in a march repelled by riot police in Chincheros, in ApurÃmac, the birthplace of Boluarte.
