Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, recently met with representatives for Xavi Simons to discuss the player’s future, according to reports from Diario Sport. The 45-minute meeting, held at a hotel in Barcelona, included Ali Barat, described as an influential figure in Simons’s career, and the player’s brother, Faustino.
Despite the discussion, it appears a transfer for Simons to Barcelona this summer is highly unlikely. The primary obstacle is the midfielder’s €70 million price tag, a figure currently considered “completely unaffordable” for the club.
Furthermore, new manager Hansi Flick reportedly believes the squad is already overstocked with midfielders, diminishing the need to sign another player for that position.
Speculation about Simons’s return persists largely due to his reported desire to leave RB Leipzig and his long-standing ambition to play for Barcelona again.
