Heavy rainfall on Tuesday, August 5, led to widespread flooding and property damage across the Charlotte region, affecting communities in both central North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina.
The city of Rock Hill was particularly impacted, receiving nearly five inches of rain in a 24-hour period by 3 p.m. While additional showers were forecast, they were expected to become more scattered through the afternoon and evening. The downpour resulted in significant street flooding in residential areas.
In Pineville, floodwaters on Town Center Boulevard submerged at least one vehicle. Officials reported that the driver was safe and that the water had begun to recede by Tuesday afternoon.
Damage was also reported in Waxhaw, where the storm caused a large tree to topple onto a home.
Meanwhile, in south Charlotte, parts of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway near Wakefield Drive in the Selwyn Village neighborhood were inundated by floodwaters.
