Denise Richards has secured a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, accusing him of years of physical and verbal abuse. The allegations are detailed in court documents filed this week amid the couple’s ongoing divorce.
In the filing, Richards, 54, claims Phypers regularly threatened her, caused at least three concussions, and placed recording devices in her hotel rooms and townhouses. “Throughout our marriage, Aaron threatened to kill me and himself and the police,” she attested, adding that he owns at least eight unregistered firearms. The filing includes a photo of Richards with a black eye, which she alleges resulted from Phypers’ abuse.
The actress detailed a recent altercation over the July 4th holiday, claiming Phypers screamed profanities, grabbed her, and forcefully hit her hat off her head. “Later that day, Aaron chased me and grabbed both of my arms forcefully and pushed me and dragged me to the ground,” the filing states. “Aaron stole my laptop and sent private text messages he had stolen from my laptop without my permission. Aaron threatened that I would ‘disappear’ if I called the police.”
Richards also alleged that Phypers accessed her laptop while she slept, downloaded her iCloud data, and photographed private text messages. She claimed that until now, she was afraid to contact authorities due to his repeated threats. A judge has partially granted the restraining order, which demands Phypers have no contact with Richards and return her electronic devices.
In a statement, Phypers has denied the allegations, calling them “completely false and deeply hurtful.”
“Let me be unequivocally clear: I have never physically or emotionally abused Denise — or anyone,” Phypers stated. “Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue. I have always tried to approach our marriage with love, patience and respect.”
Phypers filed for divorce from Richards earlier this month after six years of marriage. The couple, who wed in 2018, do not have children together. Richards was previously married to actor Charlie Sheen.
