Danish Prime Minister Mte Frederiksen announced today, Tuesday, the extension of strict lockdown measures for two weeks to limit the spread of the Coronavirus, after a sharp jump in new infections.
Frederiksen said, in a press statement, that the country’s government decided to extend the general restrictions until January 17 next, indicating that “the situation with regard to infection rates, hospitalization of patients and deaths is more dangerous than even spring.”
She added that the extension of the nationwide restrictions, announced on December 16, means keeping schools, shopping centers, restaurants, bars and non-essential stores closed.
Over the current month, Denmark has witnessed sharp increases in daily infections with the Coronavirus, and the health authorities on Tuesday recorded 2,621 cases, bringing the general toll to the level of 154447, including 1226 deaths.
And the government had previously confirmed the detection of infections with the mutated strain of the virus recently discovered in Britain, which is considered to be 70% more contagious.
