Denver has been arguably the team hardest hit this season by injuries (and we’re not talking about the coronavirus). Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., PJ Dozier, Markus Howard and Vlatko Cancar are in the infirmary, with some of them aiming to miss the entire season. Despite such a panorama, the Colorado organization has held the rhythm of the competition to the point of being right now fifth in the Western Conference at 18-17. Do they conform? No.
As reported by Mike Singer of The Denver Post, the Colorado organization will move soon to reinforce the forward and center positions. Regarding the first objective, Will Barton is almost the only option of a certain level, so increasing the depth in such a role is a desire beyond them to keep Davon Reed, who could continue in the discipline of the team after his contract of 10 days. As for the pivot, Nikola Jokic is the only one who occupies that position naturally, so they likewise believe that they need a replacement for the Serbian and be able to compete against other teams that do draw big men from the bench.
Although they move out of necessity, it seems impossible for them to do anything crazy. In recent seasons they have been in a position to fight almost any rival from face to face by having their best players on the floor. On this occasion, with Porter Jr. probably not playing until the 2022-23 season and with the unknown about the reappearance of Jamal Murray, the most logical thing is that they make adjustments that do not suppose a big bet, since it does not seem the right time to it.
