‘Thank you but no thank you. I don’t feel any love from that man’: Deontay Wilder REJECTS Floyd Mayweather’s offer to train him and says the retired great was only doing it ‘for publicity’
- Deontay Wilder dismissed Floyd Mayweather’s offer as a publicity stunt
- Mayweather said earlier this year he would train Wilder after loss to Tyson Fury
- But the American heavyweight has turned him down, saying: ‘It’s just fake love’
Deontay Wilder has emphatically turned down Floyd Mayweather‘s offer to train him, claiming the retired boxing great was only after publicity.
Mayweather offered Wilder the opportunity to work with him earlier this year, vowing that he would get him back to winning ways after his brutal defeat at the hands of Tyson Fury.
Wilder, whose has been with head trainer Jay Deas since turning professional in 2008, was due to fight Fury for a third time at the backend of this year but those plans were abandoned after they failed to reach an agreement before his rematch clause expired.

The former WBC heavyweight champion has revealed he is looking for a new co-trainer as Mark Breland, who he was furious with for throwing in the towel against Fury, has left his team.
But he has ruled out Mayweather replacing him.
‘My thing is, every fighter I’ve fought, Floyd has bet against me,’ Wilder said.
‘It ain’t even for me to discuss.
‘Even with Mark [Breland], I need [a trainer], Mark ain’t on the team no more. Nobody had anything good to say about my trainers before, but all of a sudden, you need him.
‘All this time, and all of a sudden now? Why? I don’t need anybody. I’ve made it all this far. Why do I need to change up anything? Of course, we need to replace, and you’re going to see what it is. But nobody has reached out to me.

‘It’s publicity. When I see people do that stuff, it’s for publicity. But to the offer [from Mayweather], thank you, but no thank you. I don’t feel any love from that man. Their actions don’t show that.
‘It’s fake love to me, but they know that themselves. They can’t look me in the eyes and tell me they care about me and want to see me do well.
‘They can’t look me in the eyes and be sincere about that because I would feel them. They can’t do that because they know it’s not real. It’s not. It’s for publicity.’
Wilder’s heavyweight career is in limbo at the moment with no fight plans on the table as he continues to recover from bicep surgery.
And with American could yet find himself shut out of challenging for a world title until 2022 if Fury and Anthony Joshua fulfill their two-fight deal for the undisputed crown next year.
