(Trends Wide) — Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday a proposed policy to ban many of the mitigation measures implemented during the pandemic in the state, such as mandatory masks and vaccinations.
The proposal would permanently ban covid-19 vaccination passports in Florida, the ability for schools to require masks or covid-19 vaccines, and the same for businesses. It would also prohibit “employers from hiring or firing based on mRNA injections.”
“When the world lost its mind, Florida was a haven of sanity that served strongly as the lynchpin of freedom,” DeSantis said in a press release. “These measures will ensure that Florida remains this way and provide historic protection for the freedom of expression of doctors.”
DeSantis has been an outspoken critic of most covid-19 pandemic mitigation measures. In December, he asked the Florida Supreme Court to approve an investigation into “any and all wrongdoing that has occurred in Florida with respect to covid-19 vaccines.”
In the petition filed with the court, the Republican governor requested the formation of a grand jury to investigate a broad group of entities associated with the development, distribution and promotion of vaccines, including pharmaceutical manufacturers and their executives, as well as medical associations. .
In 2021, the Republican governor signed a law that imposed fines on companies and hospitals that required mandatory inoculation against covid-19 without exemptions or alternatives.
