The latest investigation in the NBA comes after Boston Celtics suspended coach Ime Udoka for all of the upcoming season over ‘multiple’ unspecified violations of team rules.
Reports say the 45-year-old had an improper, but consensual relationship with a female member of the team’s staff.
Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is suspended for the entirety of the 2022-23 season
In the team statement naming assistant Joe Mazzulla as interim coach last month, Boston said Udoka’s future would be determined ‘at a later date.’Â
The second-year coach, who led the C’s to the NBA Finals in his debut season, is alleged to have had a consensual affair with a female staff member within the Celtics organization.Â
President of basketball operations Brad Stevens said the Celtics have a duty to look after women in their organization following the saga, amid a wave of ‘rampant bulls***’ on social media.Â
Udoka apologized to the players, fans and team for ‘putting the side in a difficult situation’ in a statement.
‘I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down,’ Udoka’s statement read.Â
‘I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment.’Â
