They fall with a dropper, but they go two in three days. It is still early to give up the Detroit Pistons season, and although very young, there is more team than the results of the first month were intended to protect. And it is no small thing to beat the Toronto Raptors who came to impose their law against Philadelphia.
Cade Cunningham advances slowly, but he is accumulating minutes and confidence, which is the main thing. He’s already a leading man on track for Dwane Casey, averaging over half an hour of play. Yesterday he crushed until 33 minutes, his top for now.
The engine of this squad remains, however and for now, its highest paid player, Jeremi Grant, yesterday author of 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. He was seconded by center Isaiah Stewart with 20 points, 15 by Saddiq Bey, and the first double-double of the course by Killian Hayes, with 13 points and 10 basket passes. Cade added 10 points and 4 assists, seven of them in the final stretch of the match with everything still to be disputed.
“(Cade) is made for these kinds of moments. He’s that kind of player, “said his teammate Stewart about the No. 1 in the draft.
But the game, even more than it could, was decided above all through the luck of the triple. There the Pistons were better, and their 6 of 8 in the last heat opened the final crack on the scoreboard (127-121).
“We had a good meeting this morning, where we talked about everything in terms of team chemistry, discipline and being a disciplined team, establishing our culture,” explained Dwane Casey at a press conference.
For his part, head coach of the Raptors –which had their scoring props in Trent and Siakam–, complained that the defensive level was not up to par, being the main cause of the defeat, as well as acknowledging the lack of stitching that the Pistons pivot made them in area.
With this victory the Pistons leave the bottom of the East to the Orlando Magic and are just one win behind last season’s finalists, the Atlanta Hawks, with only four games won on their locker.
