The head of the Lebanese caretaker government, Hassan Diab, said today, Saturday, that his government cannot meet the challenges and that “the formation of a new government must be accelerated on the basis of the reform plan.”
In a speech addressed to the Lebanese, Diab asked: “What is the fault of the citizens in order to pay the price for political ambitions? Lebanon has reached the brink of explosion after the collapse.”
He added, “Is the state required to dissolve after it has become the weakest link? The current crisis is likely to worsen, and the race for milk is an incentive for transcendence and forming a government.”
He continued: “The situation may present to me the option of seclusion, and I may resort to it even though it contradicts my convictions, and who can deal with the next dangerous repercussions and more people’s suffering?”
He pointed out that there is no solution to the financial crisis that the country is currently experiencing without negotiations with the World Bank.
Lebanon is facing the largest financial crisis since the end of the civil war, as the Lebanese pound lost 80 percent of its value against the dollar, although some official transactions are still taking place at the official Lebanese pound before the crisis, which is 1500 pounds to the dollar, while the market value of the currency has decreased to more than 9000 liras.
