Gaza- Amal stands waiting for her turn in the dialysis chair, hoping to find a place before the dark Gaza night to dialysis her kidneys, but she is not lucky every time due to the overcrowding of patients in the department and the increase in the number of displaced people from the north of the Gaza Strip to Nasser Medical Hospital in the south.
Amal tells us the pain she is suffering from as a result of the interruption of some of the medications used for dialysis. She says, “I fled with my family on foot from Al-Shifa Hospital until we reached the south of the Gaza Strip, and with every step I took I wished for death because of the intensity and strength of the pain.”
She continued, “I arrived at Nasser Hospital and had missed 3 sessions due to the siege Al-Shifa Hospital Before I moved south.”
Tired looks
With evasive looks and tired eyelids, Amal added, “I came with the hope that all sessions would resume for me, but I was surprised by the small number of hours and that the days of washing were not just for me, but for all patients due to their large number.”
In another corner, Ali sits hunched over on a dialysis chair, or the death chair, as he described it. He says, “I am 11 years old and before the war I used to wash myself three times a week, but during the war I started washing twice, which affected my health and psychology.”
He stressed that his only wish these days is to drink sweet, drinkable water before the salt water destroys his kidneys and destroys them.
Big burden
Doctor Nahed Abu Taima told Al Jazeera Net that a large number of citizens were displaced, including kidney patients, who numbered 140 patients, adding to the 220 who were present, bringing the total number of dialysis patients to 360 patients.
He added, “To accommodate this number, the number of hours of washing sessions was reduced from 4 to two hours per session, and the number of sessions per week was reduced from 3 to two sessions per week.”
Regarding the work of the medical staff, Abu Ta’imah said, “The work of the medical staff has increased, as they work 24 hours a day, which has caused a great burden on them, with a fundamental shortage of these teams.”
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Health in Gaza strip It was announced earlier that 4 cases of dialysis patients died during the Israeli war on Gaza and the complete collapse of the health system in all hospitals in the Strip.
