It seems that the relationship between Barcelona and Frenchman Ousmane Dembele has reached a point of no return and cannot be repaired, as Bulgarian former player Hristo Stoichkov launched a scathing attack on the 24-year-old international winger, accusing him of not understanding the club at all.
Barcelona sporting director Matteo Alemani revealed – on Thursday – that Dembele will be sold this month, after he failed to show his commitment to the club by signing a contract extension. And the player himself responded via a social media post, saying that he would not give in to “blackmail”.
And the newspaper “Marca” describes what is happening as “an undoubtedly ugly episode”, yet Stoichkov believes that the player is at fault in almost the entire case, and he said – in a television interview – “If you do not want to be in Barcelona, do not distort the logo at least”.
“I salute Xavi (Hernandez) for excluding him from the matches, because the Barca dressing room deserves respect. The club’s history spans more than 121 years .. (Juan) Laporta (Barcelona president), open the door. Let those who are not proud to wear the colors of (the Blaugrana) go. I know the value of this shirt very well.”
He concluded, “Dembele never understood what it means to wear the Barcelona shirt.
