Researchers have confirmed that getting probiotics not only regulates gut bacteria, the trillions of microorganisms in the gut that perform key functions in the immune system and metabolism, but also improves brain function, thus reducing anxiety. Treating it by regulating the intestinal microflora, according to what was published by the site ” doctor-ndtv“.
Probiotics are organisms naturally found in certain foods that are also known as “good” or “friendly” bacteria because they fight harmful bacteria and prevent them from settling in the intestines, such as yoghurt and yoghurt.
Researchers from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine found that the gut microbiota can help regulate brain function through something called the gut-brain axis. To reach this conclusion, the researchers reviewed 21 studies that included 1,503 people collectively.
The team found that the probiotic supplements in seven studies in their analysis contained only one type of probiotic, two studies used a product containing two types of probiotics, and the supplements used in the other five studies included at least three.
Overall, 11 out of 21 studies showed a positive effect on anxiety symptoms by regulating the gut flora, which means that more than half (52%) of the studies showed this approach to be effective.
Of the 14 studies that used probiotics as an intervention, more than a third (36%) found them to be effective in reducing anxiety symptoms, while six of the remaining seven studies that used non-probiotics as interventions found them to be effective at an average of 86%.
A review of studies published in the Journal of General Psychiatry suggested “People with symptoms of anxiety may be helped by taking steps to regulate their gut microbiota using non-biotic foods and supplements.”
In addition to using psychotropic drugs for treatment, “we can also consider regulating the gut flora to alleviate anxiety symptoms,” the researchers said.
