Dolly Parton has revealed she is taking a hiatus from songwriting as she grieves the recent loss of her husband, Carl Dean, who passed away in March at the age of 82.
During a conversation on Khloé Kardashian’s podcast, “Khloé in Wonder Land,” the country music legend explained that the emotional demands of her creative process are currently too intense.
“Several things I’ve wanted to start, but I can’t do it,” Parton said. “I will later, but I’m just coming up with such wonderful, beautiful ideas. I can’t do it right now, because I got so many other things and I can’t afford the luxury of getting that emotional right now.”
She described songwriting as a deeply personal and spiritual act, adding, “I think that’s one of the reasons I love to write, because I feel like I’m so connected to God right then.”
While new compositions are on hold, fans will soon have an opportunity to see the artist perform live. Parton has announced a new residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, scheduled for this December. The engagement marks her first Las Vegas residency in 32 years.
“I haven’t worked Vegas in years and I’ve always loved singing there,” Parton said in a statement. “I’m looking so forward to the shows in The Colosseum at Caesars and I hope you are as well. See you there!”
