Donald Trump appeals New York court order imposing surveillance on his company

The former president of the United States, Donald Trumpappealed Monday a judge’s order to install a watchdog at the Trump Organization before a civil fraud case brought by the state attorney general goes to trial.

On Thursday, Manhattan-based Judge Arthur Engoron granted state Attorney General Letitia James’ request to appoint an independent monitor to stop the alleged fraud ongoing at the real estate company and prevent the Trumps from transferring assets beyond their reach.

Engoron’s order prohibits defendants from transferring assets without court approval and requires the supervisor to receive a “full and accurate description” of the structure and assets of the Trump Organization.

In September, James appointed Trumpthree of his adult children, the Trump Organization and others as defendants in a civil suit for a $250 million fraud for allegedly overvaluing Trump’s assets and net worth over a decade with lies to banks and insurers.

In a notice of appeal filed Monday, attorney for TrumpAlina Habba, and attorneys for her children, Eric Trump, Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr., said the defendants asked the Appellate Division, a state middle-level appeals court, to review Engoron’s order, without Present your legal arguments.

Trump, a Republican, last week called Engoron’s order “ridiculous,” and the Trump Organization called it an “obvious attempt” to influence Tuesday’s US midterm elections. James is a Democrat.

Engoron gave both sides until Nov. 10 to recommend three candidates to become supervisors.

The case is one of many legal battles facing Trump while considering a new presidential run in 2024.
