Dos Bocas refinery is flooded and criticism rains down on Nahle on social networks for showing off completely dry facilities

The heavy rains caused by a cold front on the Tabasco coast caused the flooding of several areas of the Dos Bocas refinerylocated in the coastal municipality of Paraíso.

The fact generated a series of criticisms and claims on social networks to the Secretary of Energy, Dew NahleWell, yesterday at 08:59 a.m., he posted a video on his Twitter account in which he appears in the facilities of the newly opened Dos Bocas refinery, in which he explains that the night before “Hurricane Karl passed” through the Tabasco coasts and “served to test the pluvial system” of the work, which looks completely dry.

Hours later, dozens of videos appeared in which large areas of the oil complex were completely flooded, accompanied by claims and ridicule towards the official.

On Wednesday morning, the Paraíso Municipal Civil Protection Unit reported that the rains brought by cold front number four caused flooding in the city center and several communities, for which some arteries were closed to automobile traffic.

Hours later, the municipal president, Ana Castellanos, who came to office nominated by the PRD, declared that “the refinery is in the water,” as well as other areas of the municipality, which she said are in an emergency and have already been enabled. five shelters to care for victims. “80% of Paradise is in the water”.

Meanwhile, the Tabasco Civil Protection Institute reported that rains are expected in the next few hours, “without ruling out torrential peaks of 150.1 to 250.0 millimeters, which can cause intense gusts of wind, flooding and flooding, and overflowing of rivers.

For the afternoon and evening of this Wednesday, dozens of images were circulating on social networks of local media and citizens in general, showing different areas of the refinery flooded.

Some show workers from that oil facility who remain inside a bus, unable to get off because of the flood, while one of them comments that activities have been suspended.

In others, workers are seen wearing sleeves to protect themselves from the rain, knee deep in water.

On the afternoon of this Wednesday, the secretary posted the video that she uploaded yesterday morning on her Twitter account so that it appears at the beginning of her messages.

The controversial video was posted on the social network, just four hours before Nahle uploaded other photos in which she appears on a plane, accompanied by the Secretaries of Labor, Economy and Security, when they were on their way to Ciudad Victoria Tamaulipas, to accompany the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obradoron a working tour of that entity in the north of the country.

The video images are accompanied by a phrase in black and white letters that read “The Olmec refinery is foolproof.”

As he walks through dry areas, he comments that the refinery was built on a port. “Last night a tropical depression passed hurricane Karl and this refinery was built taking all the geological, geophysical, seismic, hydrographic studies”.

He also says: “…the refinery is very well, it is good that there are these natural phenomena because we are testing the pluvial, chemical, oily drainage system even more…”

This Wednesday, at 3:24 p.m., he uploaded another video, which according to the accompanying message, was sent to him by engineer Héctor Ruiz, from the managers and supervisors of the Olmeca refinery. The official says that it has rained in recent days, but that they are still working. The image does not show excess water.

According to specialists consulted by this newspaper, the flooding in the refinery is due to the fact that the engineering works were not carried out to raise the land, at least five meters, to prevent the entry of water from the river that passes through the area and that It collects the runoff that comes from Chiapas and looks for an outlet to the sea, but right in the area where the refinery is built, it collides with the seawater that enters through the same channel, generating floods.
