Rickie Fowler’s status for this week’s 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities is uncertain as he attempts to recover from an illness that forced a mid-tournament withdrawal from his previous event.
The veteran golfer withdrew from the WM Phoenix Open before the second round last week, citing health issues. His early exit followed an opening-round 3-over 74. This continues a difficult trend for Fowler at that particular event, where he has now missed the cut or withdrawn in four of his last five starts since his victory there in 2019.
Despite the recent health concerns, Fowler is currently scheduled to begin his opening round in Minnesota on Thursday at 8:29 a.m. ET, playing alongside Tony Finau and Taylor Pendrith.
The 3M Open represents one of the last opportunities for players to secure crucial FedEx Cup points before the PGA Tour playoffs begin. For Fowler, who has experienced a season of inconsistent results, the pressure is mounting. With the regular season drawing to a close, his ability to overcome both his recent illness and inconsistent form will be critical.
