19 people were killed and dozens of others were injured in two different accidents in PakistanOne of them occurred in the region Balochistan (southwest of the country), where two military vehicles were ambushed, and the other occurred in Dera Ismail Khan (north of the country) when a police car was targeted.
The Pakistani army said that an attack on a security convoy in southern Pakistan led to the death of 14 soldiers on Friday.
The French news agency said that it had seen pictures that included burned bodies scattered on the road.
The attack occurred near the fishing town of Pasni in Balochistan, on a highway extending along the coast from the Iranian border to the greater city of Karachi.
Balochistan is home to a decades-long insurgency by ethnic Baloch fighters demanding independence.
Police car explosion
Earlier today, 5 civilians were killed and 21 others were injured, as a result of a bomb explosion that targeted a police car in northwestern Pakistan.
The attack took place in Dera Ismail Khan, a city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the Afghan border where militancy has increased in recent months.
“The bomb was placed on a motorcycle. The target of the explosion was a police truck,” Dera Ismail Khan district official, Zafarul Islam, told AFP.
Bilal Faizi, spokesman for the Pakistani emergency agency Rescue 1122, confirmed the toll.
No group has claimed responsibility for the two incidents, which come amid an escalation in attacks claimed by armed groups, which increases the risks facing security forces before the national elections scheduled for next January.
