Drake makes $830k profit after betting on the Denver Nuggets to beat the Miami Heat and to seal NBA title in five after rapper put $1.25m on the line
Drake has made a whooping $830,000 after betting on the Denver Nuggets to beat the Miami Heat and to seal the NBA championship in five games, following a bold move to put $1.25million on the line.
The Canadian rapper, 36, and whose full name is Aubrey Drake Graham, placed two bets on the Nuggets at the start of the month, prior to the start of the NBA Finals on June 1.
He put down a $1M wager on Denver to win the series, entirely, to get a $230k return (pays $1.23M total). The second bet involved the ‘Passionfruit’ singer placing $250k on the Miami Heat winning no more than a game, meaning he predicted the ‘Nuggs’ to win in five.
That wager paid $850k (a $600k return), so putting all things together, the five-time Grammy Award winning artist earned $830,000 total from both stakes.
That’s not such a bad thing for a celebrity who’s become somewhat of a superstition among gamblers.

Drake is known for rooting for, and betting on teams or athletes who then go onto build a losing reputation, creating a social media phenomenon dubbed as the ‘Drake Curse.’
Duke lost in the Final Four of last year’s March Madness after ‘Champagne Pipi,’ who’s a well-documented Kentucky Wildcats fan, bet $100k on the Blue Devils to emerge victorious against North Carolina.
In this year’s edition of the college basketball tournament, ‘Drizzy’ lost $20k after UConn beat San Diego State in the championship game, despite putting his money on the Huskies.

Conor McGregor is an example of the ‘Drake Curse’ after the rapper bet on him to beat Khabib
He also placed bets on Conor McGregor to defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC Lightweight Championship, only to see the Irishman lose the bout.
But Drake’s not actually been ‘cursed’ every time he gambles either.
The Degrassi star placed wagers on the Toronto Raptors to win the NBA title in 2019, and on Tyson Fury to defeat Deontay Wilder in 2021.
Both Canada’s only basketball franchise and ‘The Gypsy King’ emerged victorious from their respective contests.
The Nuggets are now part of the lucky teams to have avoided the ‘Drake Curse’ – an acclamation that only a few can brag about.
