Draymond Green got duped by a fake NBA news account on Twitter on Wednesday and inadvertently criticized Kevin Garnett in the process.
Green responded to a tweet from NBA Centel – which has its own blue tick due to Twitter’s recent rule change – quoting a fabricated comment from Garnett referring to Greene punching Jordan Poole before the start of the 2022-23 season.
The tweet read: ‘Draymond punching JP is like a senior punching a freshman who’s half his size and than walks around talking himself up as if he’s like that. Come try me Dray.’
Green saw the tweet and before taking a moment to work out precisely where the comments had come from, he responded on Twitter.
Draymond Green got duped by a fake NBA news account on Twitter on Wednesday
Green was tricked by an account that had bought a blue tick and fabricated a quote
He tagged Garnett’s real account in his reply, which said: ‘I tried you when I was a Rookie KG, and you started talking to yourself like I wasn’t talking to you. What’s that like? The freshman picking on a senior citizen that’s double his size?’
Green soon realized that he had been tricked and he deleted his tweet, but not before plenty of his followers had seen.
Garnett, for his part, seemed to have no ill will toward Green when he saw the tweet – at least not publicly.
He quote replied Green saying: ‘That’s a fake tweet. ‘NBA Centel’… @elonmusk see wtf is happening. Fix it.’
Green was fined for the incident itself and the pair appeared to have at least forged a professional relationship.
But he appeared doubtful he would be able to rebuild their friendship.
‘As I said before, that’s not up to me,’ the four-time NBA champion said. ‘Nor do I think there’s much relevance. Quite frankly, we both know how to play basketball and that is the most important for us.
‘We’re paid to do a job and we’re gonna come and do that job to the best of our ability. We wanna continue to win so we gonna do what we have to do to win.’
