Dwyane Wade has told the incoming NBA rookies to get smart with money as they prepare for the Draft on Thursday in Brooklyn, New York.
Wade, who has an estimated wealth of $170million, spoke to TMZ as part of the build-up to Thursday night’s hotly anticipated event.
‘Try to get you somebody in your life that really knows finances,’ the 41-year-old said when asked what he would go back in time and tell himself before his own Draft.
‘Somebody who, hopefully, you can build a relationship with. Hopefully, you can build a trust with eventually.
‘But also learn – learn everything you can about finances.’

Victor Wembanyama is the nailed-on first pick in Thursday’s event in Brooklyn, New York
Wade also added: ‘Take in the moment, it goes fast . You get one Draft so enjoy it all – take videos and pictures.’
Wade was selected fifth in the 2003 Draft by the Miami Heat – the same year that LeBron James was drafted first by Cleveland Cavaliers in one of the most anticipated top picks in NBA history.
Wade spent most his 16 years in the NBA with the Heat – he left in 2016 and spent a season with the Bulls and another with the Cavs before returning to Miami for a season and retiring.
He was a three-time NBA champion with titles coming in 2016, 2012 and 2013 – all with the Heat.
Now it’s a full-circle moment of sorts in this year’s draft – Victor Wembanyama is the most nailed-on No 1 pick since LeBron 20 years ago, with the Frenchman almost guaranteed to be chosen first by San Antonio Spurs.
And Wembanyama already seems aware of his money-making capabilities, judging by an interview with Good Morning America earlier this week.
Speaking about his parents, he said: ‘It’s really special for me and my family. Our life is gonna change from one day to another.
‘They were also sports players. But the thing is, they didn’t really interfere with my sport. They let me be how I wanted to be. They made a lot of sacrifices. But on the other hand, they’re gonna be able to retire early.’
