The European Palestinian Information Center (EPAL) announced that it monitored more than 26,000 demonstrations and events in 20 European countries, with the completion of a year since the war waged by the Israeli occupation army on Gaza Strip Since October 7, 2023.
The Center also documented the broad participation of Palestinians in Europe and a wide spectrum of members of the Arab and Islamic communities, in addition to broad European participation by activists, media figures, members of parliament, and academics, all of whom formed a backing in defense of the Palestinian cause, and were motivated by humanitarian motives as a result of the massacres committed by the occupation army in the Gaza Strip.
Maher Hijazi, a member of the Administrative Board of IBAL, said that the center relied in documenting these activities on extended relationships throughout the European continent, and this large number of activities were documented through a network of relationships with more than 300 Palestinian, Arab, Islamic, and European activists in about 20 European countries. .
Hijazi added – in statements to Al Jazeera Net – that the European Palestinian Media Center also relies on more than 310 Palestinian, Arab and Islamic institutions to document these events, working in coordination in order to follow up on the events that may be field demonstrations, popular vigils, or press conferences, which has been translated. Broadcasting more than 3,500 live events across various platforms.
This effort was reflected in seeing new segments of European societies being formed to see images of the killing of children and women inside the Gaza Strip at the hands of the occupation, and this is primarily due to the role of the media, which stands by our Palestinian people and rejects the genocidal war being practiced against them, and thus all of this has resulted in a change. On the European street towards the Palestinian issue, according to Hijazi.
Regarding the outcome of this effort, a member of the Administrative Board of the IPAL Center indicated that the European street that supports the Palestinian issue is now putting pressure on decision-makers in European countries, and this has been reflected in a number of political decisions and official positions from several countries that were adopting the official Israeli narrative but abandoned it. Wholly or partially for the benefit of the Palestinian people.
But Hijazi also mentioned a number of challenges that faced their work, which were as follows:
- Some platforms blocked and closed the Center's pages after publishing massacres committed by the Israeli army, and this is considered a war on Palestinian content and support for the occupation.
- Preventing the organization of some events and activities that support the Palestinian cause and highlight the crimes committed in the Gaza Strip.
- Another challenge is cutting off the Internet in the area where the events are held so that they are not broadcast live on various platforms.
