The United States honored Mary Alexander Basta, the first Egyptian mayor of Bullingbrook, Illinois, by including her in the list of 20 most distinguished women around the world for the year 2021.
The American Alliance for Multiculturalism in Illinois, headed by Danny Davis, a member of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, confirmed that this honor is a recognition of the inspiring leadership of Alexander and her pioneering initiatives, which is part of the celebrations of International Women’s Day.
In statements to the correspondent of the Middle East News Agency in Washington, Mayor Mary Alexander said, “This honor honors me as an Egyptian woman residing in the United States,” stressing her keenness in all forums to highlight her affiliation with Egypt, and noting that she is preparing to visit Egypt soon, along with a tourist group of Americans to get acquainted with the most important landmarks. Famous in Egypt.
She noted that she was brought up and educated in Egypt, obtained a BA in Media from the American University in Cairo, and then continued her studies in the United States, where she obtained her Masters from the University of Tennessee, USA.
It is noteworthy that the list of distinguished women, which included the name of Mayor Mary Alexander, also included Kamala Harris, US Vice President Joe Biden, the Prime Minister of Finland and the Prime Minister of New Zealand.
