Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir stated that he “cannot bear the responsibility of people dying again in a train accident,” during his meeting today with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in the wake of the Sohag train accident.
He added, “There are large sums that the state spends on developing the railway,” adding that “railway workers should be jealous of their reputation after this unfortunate accident.”
He added that by the end of this year, all Russian train cars will be new or fully developed.
He pointed out that “there are problems with the human element within the railway authority, and work is being done to qualify it at the highest level.”

The Minister of Transport confirmed that all trains would operate using safety means and secure their movement through automated devices in each train, pointing out that, during his meeting with President Sisi, he suggested that there are delays in train schedules to reduce accidents.
According to the latest reports, two trains collided with the Tahta center in the Egyptian governorate of Sohag on Friday afternoon, killing 32 people and wounding 165 others.
