Reem Hamed is a 29-year-old Egyptian woman, a PhD researcher, with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture from Cairo University, Department of Biotechnology, Class of 2017. She used to live in the French city of Les Ulis, and reside in the residence of the French University of Besixt. She used to work at the Institute of Integrative Cell Biology at the University of Saclay-Paris, and she obtained a Master’s degree in Genomics from the same university.

Days after Reem’s posts, on the evening of Thursday, August 22, her death was announced under mysterious circumstances after her body was found in front of the door of the apartment where she lived.
The French authorities opened an investigation into the death to determine whether there was any criminal suspicion or not.
Egyptian response
For its part, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement confirming that it is closely following the investigations, as the Egyptian consulate in Paris has been in contact with the French authorities since they received the report of the incident to determine the circumstances of the incident and the cause of death. The consulate also requested that it be provided with the results of the investigation as soon as possible.
Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, urged and stressed the need for the Egyptian Consulate in Paris to closely follow up on the procedures and progress of the investigations with the French authorities. He also called for the speedy completion of the procedures for transferring the body of the deceased to Egypt.
