Rayados to Host Mazatlán as They Seek to Extend Home Dominance
Monterrey is set to host Mazatlán this Sunday in the final match of Matchday 5, aiming to extend its complete dominance over the visitors at BBVA Stadium. The Sinaloan club has never won at the venue since it opened in 2015.
Under coach Robert Dante Siboldi, Mazatlán will attempt to upset the hosts, secure three crucial points, and record a historic first victory on Monterrey’s home turf. A win would also mark their first away victory of the current Apertura 2025 tournament, as their record on the road so far stands at one draw and one loss.
The two clubs enter the contest with different fortunes. Monterrey, led by coach Domenec Torrent, currently sits fourth in the league table with nine points. In their only home match this season, they defeated Atlas 3-1. Mazatlán holds ninth place with five points.
Mazatlán is one of four teams that have never managed to defeat Rayados at BBVA Stadium. To break the streak, they will have to overcome one of the most formidable squads in Mexican football, a team bolstered by the leadership of Spanish star Sergio Ramos.
Other teams that have consistently struggled at the venue include Pumas, who have 12 losses and one draw in 13 visits; Atlas, with a record of 10 losses and three draws; and Juárez, which has secured only one draw alongside seven defeats.
