Despite a prolonged silence from Bethesda since the game’s 2018 teaser trailer, fans of The Elder Scrolls VI have uncovered a significant detail about its development: veteran designer Alan Nanes is serving as the project’s Design Director.
The information, which has recently gained traction within the fan community, was first spotted on Nanes’ public LinkedIn profile. A Reddit user shared the discovery, highlighting a statement where Nanes confirms, “I am currently working as the design director on Bethesda Game Studio’s next game in the Elder Scrolls series.”
Nanes has an extensive history with Bethesda, with his credits including most of the studio’s major titles prior to Starfield. The design director role for that 2023 release was held by Emil Pagliarulo.
The news has been met with enthusiasm from fans on Reddit, many of whom are familiar with Nanes’ previous contributions. “He created Mjoll and brought back Jiub? I’ve heard enough,” one user commented. Another added, “Ah so he is the man responsible for the nirnroot quests. […] Super excited, looks like everything he has touched has been memorable and well written.”
This development provides a rare update for a title about which little is officially known. Since its cinematic reveal over six years ago, Bethesda has not confirmed the game’s official subtitle, setting, or any changes to the series’ established formula. The confirmation of a key creative lead offers a concrete piece of information for fans awaiting the next installment in the acclaimed RPG franchise.
