Brazil’s public prosecutor announced that it had formally charged 11 people last night in connection with the fire that broke out at local football club Flamengo and killed 10 youngsters in 2019.
These players, whose ages ranged from 14 to 16, were killed on February 8, 2019, by a fire that broke out in one of the club’s training centers on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.
Three other young players were seriously injured in the fire, which is believed to have erupted due to an electrical failure in an air conditioner.
The fire broke out while the young players were training with the club or undergoing auditions.
These young men were housed in ship containers that had been turned into accommodations.
The prosecution authorities have charged 11 people, some of whom work with the club and others are responsible for the supply, installation and maintenance of accommodation.
The prosecution authorities said negligence caused the deaths, and reported “irregularities and abuses” as well.
