Elon Musk responded to Lakers star LeBron James’ concerns over the reported ‘scary AF’ surge in hate speech on Twitter since his $44billion takeover of the app.
James took to the social media platform to express his concerns over the reported rise in racial slurs being tweeted.
The NBA superstar quote tweeted another post that shared a link to report that the use of the N-word had increased by nearly 500 percent, according to a social media research group, via The Washington Post.
The 37-year-old claimed he could not care who owned the company but urged Musk and Twitter to take the matter seriously.
James posted: ‘I dont know Elon Musk and, tbh, I could care less who owns twitter. But I will say that if this is true, I hope he and his people take this very seriously because this is scary AF. So many damn unfit people saying hate speech is free speech.’
The Tesla CEO responded to James by quote tweeting a post from Twitter’s Head of Safety & Integrity Yoel Roth, which claimed a majority of the accounts posting the hateful speech were ‘inauthentic’.

Roth had written: ‘Nearly all of these accounts are inauthentic. We’ve taken action to ban the users involved in this trolling campaign — and are going to continue working to address this in the days to come to make Twitter safe and welcoming for everyone.’
Roth’s post had also been in response to a previous tweet from Musk, which read: ‘To be super clear, we have not yet made any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies.’
Musk acquired the social media platform through a $44billion takeover and proclaimed himself ‘Chief Twit’ earlier this week.

Musk had previously tweeted that the platform’s moderation policies had not changed
In interviews and his own Twitter posts, Musk has shared insights on how he would overhaul Twitter when he became boss, including making it a haven for free speech, open sourcing algorithms for developers to make suggestions and defeating spam bots he believes are running rampant on the site.
He has been very vocal about easing content moderation policies, noting in April that if a tweet includes contents that are ‘a gray area’ it should stay, but Musk is also aware that those with a lot of controversy should not necessarily be promoted.
Musk strolled into Twitter headquarters in San Jose, California Wednesday afternoon, but did so in his own unique way.
He posted a video on Twitter of himself while carrying a sink into the lobby, with text reading: ‘Entering Twitter HQ – let that sink in!’ And today, he is officially the man in charge.
