(CNN) — Emilia Clarke was thrilled to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but a near-miss with Samuel L. Jackson nearly sent her reeling.
“I almost ran over him,” the “Game of Thrones” star revealed to Yahoo Entertainment in a video interview posted Friday, referring to a mishap on the set of the new MCU series “Secret Invasion.”
Clarke described how she was ordered to drive a Lada – which, she explained, “is like a very old Russian car” – for a scene in the sci-fi thriller, in which she was supposed to drive to the camera, and Jackson, and stop dead.
However, the transmission and gear stick were confusing, as the Lada had something like six controls and 10 pedals, resembling “a tractor”, Clarke explained.
However, production was running behind schedule and there was pressure to get the take, so Clarke jumped in.
“I was wrong, I stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake,” he explains.
However, the actress was able to correct her mistake in time, thereby avoiding a certain disaster and a collision with Jackson, aka Nick Fury.
As for how Jackson handled the moment, Clarke said, “He was very chivalrous and charming and kind.”
But, Clarke continued, “then I cried a bit and someone else drove it for me.”
“Secret Invasion,” also starring Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn and Oscar winner Olivia Colman, follows a covert infiltration of the alien Skrull race – first introduced in 2019’s “Captain Marvel” – on planet Earth.
