Emirati top scorer Ali Mabkhout is looking forward to raising his scoring record in the Asian Nations Football Championship when he participates with his country in the 18th session of the continental championship hosted by Qatar from January 12 to February 10 of next year.
The 33-year-old striker scored 9 goals in the Asian Cup finals, which puts him in third place on the list of all-time top scorers, one goal behind South Korean Lee Dong-gook and 5 goals behind Iranian legend Ali Daei.
The 2015 edition in Australia was considered exceptional in Mabkhout’s international career, during which he achieved many personal achievements, most notably receiving the Golden Boot award for best scorer with 5 goals (the only Emirati to achieve this achievement), and led the UAE national team to third place, in addition to scoring the fastest goal. In the history of the Asian Championship, against Bahrain, only 14 seconds after the starting whistle.
The Emirati star of Al Jazira continued his remarkable brilliance with the national team, scoring 4 goals during the semi-finals in the Asian Nations in 2019.
Days before the start of the continental championship in Qatar, Mabkhout, one of the greatest strikers in Asia, hopes to continue scoring in the next edition, not only to break Iranian Ali Daei’s record, but to lead the UAE to the podium for the first time in its history.
