3 Memphis Fire Division personnel who responded to the incident that led to the loss of life of Tyre Nichols on January 7 have been fired, the department announced Monday.

EMTs Robert Extended and JaMicheal Sandridge, and Lieutenant Michelle Whitaker “failed to perform an satisfactory client assessment” on Nichols and violated “quite a few MFD” procedures and protocols, according to a push launch from the MFD.

Nichols, who was overwhelmed and pepper sprayed by many law enforcement officers, died as a consequence of his accidents 3 days later on.

An independent autopsy released on January 24 discovered that Nichols died from “extensive bleeding” just after staying overwhelmed by a number of Memphis Law enforcement Department officers. 

So far, 5 MPD officers —Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills, Jr., and Justin Smith — have been fired and billed with next-degree murder. 

The MPD put a sixth officer, Preston Hemphill, on compensated administrative depart, authorities declared on Monday. Hemphill was associated in the original visitors end and tased Nichols. The MPD is also investigating a seventh unnamed officer who was also relieved of their obligation. 

Ben Crump and Antonio Romanucci, legal professionals representing Nichols, expressed disappointment that Hempill experienced not but been terminated or billed for his involvement in Nichols’ demise.

“It certainly begs the concern why the white officer concerned in this brutal assault was shielded and guarded from the public eye, and to day, from enough discipline and accountability,” Crump and Romanucci explained.
