Endorses commission in San Lázaro to reduce the percentage of fines to political institutes

The Political-Electoral Reform Commission of the Chamber of Deputies endorsed the amendment initiative that seeks to reduce the maximum limits of fines for political parties.

The opinion reforms article 456 of the General Law of Electoral Institutions and Procedures and 23 of the General Law of Political Parties, in terms of sanctions.

The initiative cites that the total amount of the reduction and/or retention of the monthly administration of public financing for permanent ordinary activities derived from any type of sanctions, fines, discounts, remnants or other concepts, may not exceed 25% of the monthly administration corresponding. Currently that amount is 50 percent.

During the discussion of the legislators, Marcos Rosendo Medina Filigrana (Morena), said that the initiative is aimed at avoiding excesses of the electoral authority that nullify the activity of a political institute in the face of a sanction that could be excessive.

While the PT legislator, Pedro Vázquez explained that the electoral referee (INE) should be left to make decisions that only correspond to the legislators.

For his part, Javier Casique, a PRI deputy, urged legislators to join forces and reach consensus. “Sanctions are necessary so that no one has an advantage by violating the law.”

For Elizabeth Pérez Valdez, the initiative approved by the commission is contradictory since, although the opinion may benefit political parties in terms of fines, “it is not correct that it go above the law; We must never be above the law and never make laws in a way”.

Finally, the members of said legislative commission energetically demanded the clarification of the crimes of the murders of the deputy of Morelos, Gabriela Marín, and of the municipal president of San Miguel Totolapan, Guerrero, Conrado Mendoza.
