England coach Gareth Southgate said his players should consider staying away from social media like former France international Thierry Henry did to avoid abuse.
Henry closed his social media accounts last week to protest the racist abuse that comes through these sites and the failure of those responsible for these sites to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Southgate said he supports Henry’s decision, but at the same time he will not prevent his players from using the sites during the upcoming European Championship in June 2021.
“I think all players, and all first-level players who are vulnerable to such abuse, should think about this (leaving the means of communication),” the England coach said.
Southgate added that anyone experiencing such abuse should reconsider their use of social media.
English football authorities said last month that Facebook, Twitter and Instagram had become a “haven for abuse” and urged social media companies to address the problem in the wake of racist messages targeting a number of players.
