EXCLUSIVE: Eddie Jones is set to be SACKED by England today after head coach was summoned to a showdown meeting with RFU chiefs on Monday following dismal run of just five wins in 12 Tests… with Steve Borthwick taking over from the Aussie
- Jones is expected to be sacked after being summoned to a meeting on Monday
- It followed a review conducted by the RFU following a dismal run of results
- Secretive panel held talks with Jones before ending his seven-year reign
Eddie Jones will be sacked as England head coach on Tuesday and replaced by Steve Borthwick, after the RFU’s post-autumn inquest decided that the Australian’s position is untenable.
The 62-year-old took part in a meeting with his RFU bosses and the secretive review panel on Monday afternoon.
And Sportsmail understands that they have resolved to remove him from his post after seven years in charge of the national team.
Sources indicated that the recommendation was due to be put to the union council on Monday night and the board on Tuesday, to be ratified. An announcement on the abrupt end of Jones’s regime is expected on Tuesday afternoon, once the full process has been concluded.
Once that happens, Leicester head coach Borthwick will be brought in to replace Jones, months earlier than planned.

Leicester Tigers director of rugby Steve Borthwick is one of the contenders to replace him
It is thought that a deal had been done to integrate Borthwick into the England set-up from June, but he will now be tasked with overseeing a revival in the Six Nations, ahead of the World Cup next autumn.
The RFU have chosen to entrust this momentous assignment to the homegrown candidate and former national captain, ahead of Kiwi Scott Robertson.
Jones had enjoyed full backing in the corridors of power at Twickenham until recently. He survived an uncomfortable review after England lost three games out of five in the latest Six Nations — as they had done a year earlier.
But when the team were booed off after being beaten 27-13 by South Africa last month, at the end of an autumn campaign which yielded just one win from four fixtures, it appeared to cause his employers to run out of patience.
The decision is believed to have come after a review from RFU CEO Bill Sweeney
Borthwick’s swift elevation is expected now that the RFU have been denied the chance to recruit a proven Test coach as caretaker.
Warren Gatland would have had the credentials to stabilise and revive England in time for the World Cup.
But the Welsh Rugby Union moved quickly to lure him back to Cardiff on Monday on a two-year deal as head coach after sacking Wayne Pivac.
