The Premier League has opened an international office in New York City to support the continued growth of the league and its clubs in the US, league officials disclosed over the weekend.Â
Based in Manhattan, the office will be led by former NBA, NFL and MLS executive Akasah Jain, who was appointed as US Managing Director in June. Jain’s worked on generating fan and commercial growth for sports organizations globally for nearly 20 years.Â
‘The Premier League’s popularity has strengthened significantly in the United States over the last decade so opening an office in New York is a great chance to build on that success,’ said Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters in a public press release.
‘We look forward to having a permanent base here and working even closer with NBC Sports as well as continuing to build on events like Premier League Mornings Live and the Summer Series.’Â
Indeed, the Premier League’s gained traction in a country where its sports culture is dominated by the ‘sacred three’ of American football, basketball and baseball, all due to its highly successful and long-term broadcast partnership with NBC Sports, which became the channel to tune into for weekday and weekend games in the US in 2013.Â
