The global feminist movement succeeded with distinction in infiltrating many centers of leadership and influence in the developed and developing countries of the world, and this success reached its goal by pressuring the United Nations, and prompting it to adopt its principles and ideas and to establish the United Nations Women’s Authority and to include the goal of “gender equality and women’s empowerment” within The Sustainable Development Goals, which paved the way for UN Women to work day and night to achieve the goals of the global feminist movement through constitutional and legal means based on the commitments of UN member states to the international covenants and covenants they signed.

The feminist movement is no longer just an activity aimed at helping Western women to obtain their basic rights in elections, education and work on an equal basis with men, but has turned into a huge global hegemonic movement, insisting on changing the human social system, and imposing its ideas on the peoples of the world in a revolutionary and revolutionary way.

The subject of the global feminist movement is much larger than we can address in such an article, as it needs huge volumes and a tremendous research effort to surround it in all its aspects, but that does not prevent us from shedding light on some aspects, which show us the reality of the movement’s size, spread and rootedness, and its influence. Political, economic, social and cultural, starting with the historical development, passing through the extent of its spread and influence, and ending with the knowledge of its intellectual base.

Waiting for the fifth wave

The feminist movement started in Europe and the United States, and its beginnings go back to the 17th century; When it was in the form of limited demands scattered here and there by some activists, writers and writers, defending women and their position, and rejecting stereotyped images of them, which prevail in the prevailing social culture and its ecclesiastical extensions at the time, which caused the execution of about 50 thousand women – and in some accounts 500 A thousand women – in Europe and the United States between the 15th and 18th centuries, under the pretext of practicing witchcraft and sorcery. These demands and calls came at the time, in protest against the idea of restricting women’s activities to the family, home and children circle, while men monopolize politics, war and wage work in various sectors. Historians and researchers stand at 4 waves of the historical development of the feminist movement, as follows:

The first wave: the right to vote

This wave covers the period from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, which was characterized by colonial expansion, the progress of the Industrial Revolution, and witnessed the First and Second World Wars and their devastating effects on the structure of Western society, where more than 24 million men were lost in World War II alone, and began Women do the work of men participating in the wars, and the demands mostly centered around the right of women to vote, as elections at that time were restricted to men. Its ideas are transmitted from Western countries to other countries of the world in Asia, Africa and Latin America, especially after the issuance of the International Covenant on Human Rights by the United Nations, and the inclusion of women’s rights among its articles.

The second wave: gender equality

This wave started in the sixties of the last century, and the circle of interest in it and responding to its demands at the official and popular levels expanded, as did the circle of forming institutions, unions and women’s groups, and interest in it in the media, literature and art, and this wave focused on the issue of gender equality.

The third wave: sexual freedom and homosexuality

This wave began in the nineties of the last century until 2010, aiming to address the failures of the second wave, and to confront the challenges it faces in all fields and at all levels, and the circle of activity expanded to include poor communities and young girls, and to support sexual freedom, so it adopted homosexuality, attracting its members and defending their rights In addition to women’s right to birth control, as a necessity to achieve economic independence from men, the so-called “Beijing Platform for Action” was issued during this period by the United Nations in 1995, which represents the reference for all actions required to achieve gender equality and empower women.

Fourth wave: Empowerment and empowerment

This wave appeared in 2012, after the launch of the United Nations Women in 2010, and its focus was on the issue of empowering women in all areas of life, equally with men, without discrimination between one field and another, or one level and another, in addition to achieving comprehensive change and combating discrimination. The emergence of social media platforms and the spread of anti-harassment forums helped spread values, ideas and behaviors, and expand the circle of support at all levels and in all countries of the world. In 2013, the feminist movement in London organized a million-strong demonstration to protest against a report issued by the United Nations, which stated that one out of every 3 women in the world is subjected to harassment and beatings.

next wave

The global feminist movement now completely dominates the United Nations, and it was able – through many means and methods of pressure – to force the United Nations to adopt its ideas and principles, and turn them into resolutions, plans and agreements adopted by the United Nations, and annually reviews the level of progress achieved with representatives of Member States, The global feminist movement is now waiting to fully achieve its goals by 2030 within the sustainable development goals. Indeed, the Generation Equality Forum, which is held annually in Mexico and France and organized by UN Women, has developed a more optimistic acceleration plan to achieve gender equality gender, and the full empowerment of women by 2026, with funding amounting to about $40 billion.

For significance and demonstration, I quote here the Forum’s phrase to the world “As a global champion of women and girls, UN Women stands at the heart of mobilizing governments and civil society, to deliver on the promises of the Beijing Platform for Action to society at large. The Generation Equality Forum offers the opportunity to bring together change-makers of all ages and genders, from around the world, to tackle the unfinished business of empowering women, and leaving no one behind.”

Member states, civil society, the private sector and UN entities are invited to join efforts with UN Women and contribute to this historic moment. The United Nations harnesses its capabilities through all of its agencies – primarily UN Women – to accelerate the achievement of the goals and reach this historic moment. Around the clock, the authority is achieving many achievements in this regard, and we refer, for example, to the campaign it launched in September 2014 under the slogan “HeForShe,” which seeks to expand the scope of support and change social, ethical, and behavioral thought not at the level of Not only girls and women, but also youth and men. The number of activists committed to it has reached about 3 million activists around the world, in addition to 600 million partners representing the authority in the world, and two billion discussions on the topic annually through social media platforms.

Whether this historic moment is expected in 2026 or 2030, it will represent a milestone in the history of human society, with which the fifth wave of the global feminist movement may begin, which will be more empowered, powerful and influential throughout its history. How will the features of this wave be? What will be its priorities?

The feminist movement is no longer just a human rights activity that helps Western women obtain their basic rights in elections, education and work on an equal basis with men. Rather, it has turned into a huge global hegemonic movement that insists on changing the human social system and imposing its ideas on the peoples of the world, in a revolutionary and revolutionary way. Who is behind this movement? Where did she get these ideas from? And what do you want from it?
