Tweeters commented on the escape of the leader of the Ecuadorian “Los Choneros” gang, who was pranked by the “Veto”, and said that it would be… Pablo Escobar (Colombian drug baron) modern era, while others said that he might seize power in the country.
Vito is described as the most dangerous prisoner in the country. He escaped from prison two days ago, forcing Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa to declare a state of emergency and plunge the country into an internal armed conflict.
The authorities had transferred Vito to the high-security “La Roca” prison after the assassination of a presidential candidate, days after Vito threatened to kill him. It took 4,000 armed personnel to transfer him to prison.
However, the most dangerous prisoner in the country did not last long in the new prison, and he was returned again to his favorite prison, “Wayakil”, until his disappearance was announced only two days ago.
The authorities began a massive search for the escaped criminal, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office said that it would investigate the alleged escape of “Vito.”
President Noboa imposed a state of emergency in the country for a period of 60 days, declared the country entering into internal armed conflict, imposed a nightly curfew, and classified transnational organized crime groups as terrorist organizations and warring actors.
The state of emergency allows the government to use the army to maintain public order throughout the country, including inside prisons.
In the wake of these developments, 6 prisons witnessed acts of rebellion that led to gangs taking control of some of them and holding their guards hostage, to the point where they threatened to execute them.
The matter did not stop at the prisons, as one of the gangs attacked the headquarters of a public channel in “Wayakil” during a live broadcast, and forced the employees to surrender.
But Ecuadorian police later announced the arrest of all the gunmen, the evacuation of the media crew, and said that all employees and hostages were alive.
Tweeters commented on these dramatic developments in Ecuador with some sarcasm, but others expressed their belief that things might go further than Vito’s escape.
Teacher Vito
Commenting on the escape, Musa said sarcastically: “Master Vito is the biggest drug dealer in Ecuador, and they are transferring him to a high-security prison. He said to them, ‘Oh God, they upset you,’ and he (also) escaped and will carry out what he said literally.”
As for Apkalos, he said that the country plunged into chaos after Vito escaped from prison, considering that a real war had begun between the government and the gangs.
Zeke criticized the government’s disregard for Vito until he was able to strengthen his power, saying that “a gang called Los Choneros, with Vito as its leader, began coordinating with a more famous gang in Mexico called the Sinaloa Cartel, and Vito benefited from this alliance by increasing his influence and his power increased in Ecuador, so he was arrested.” They put him in prison, but it was too late.”
Modern day Pablo Escobar
Almost the same opinion was expressed by Ali Nader, who said: “I believe that after what happened in Ecuador today, Veto will be the Pablo Escobar of the new era.”
Gharib also went on to talk about the possibility of Vito trying to take control of the country, saying: “Will the most dangerous gangster in Ecuador (Vito) succeed in taking over it?”
Gharib said, “Ecuador has been experiencing chaos since Vito fled two days ago despite declaring a state of emergency, and it seems that the man is planning to take control of the country.”
Vito has been imprisoned since 2011, serving prison sentences of up to 34 years for committing various crimes, including drug smuggling and murder.
Official authorities in Ecuador say that clashes between gangs inside the country’s prisons have caused the deaths of about 400 people since 2021, noting that more than 7,800 murders were recorded during the past year.
