ESPN and SEC Network host Ryan McGee believes that Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin would only consider leaving his current position for one specific job: his former home at the University of Alabama.
The speculation comes as ESPN released a new documentary, “The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin,” which chronicles the coach’s turbulent and ultimately successful career. The film revisits his tumultuous journey, which included head coaching stints with the Oakland Raiders, the University of Tennessee, and USC, where he was famously fired on an airport tarmac.
Following that career low point, Kiffin received a pivotal call from then-Alabama coach Nick Saban, who offered him the role of offensive coordinator. Despite initial skepticism about the pairing, the partnership proved highly successful, revitalizing Kiffin’s career and ultimately leading to his head coaching position at Ole Miss.
While Kiffin’s name has been linked to several high-profile job openings during his tenure with the Rebels, McGee asserts that only a call from Tuscaloosa would truly tempt him.
“I think he probably has one, maybe two jobs in his mind that he would really wrestle with if it came open,” McGee said on the “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” show. “I think Alabama’s the one. If Alabama calls, I don’t care who you are—you return the call.”
Kiffin maintains strong ties to the Alabama program, frequently expressing gratitude for Saban and the opportunity that resurrected his coaching trajectory. Given the mutual respect between Kiffin and the Crimson Tide fanbase, he is widely considered a logical candidate should the head coaching position become available again.
