The Ethiopian government announced the arrest of a leader of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, who was hiding in a refugee camp in the town of Shire, accusing him of committing murder and intimidation.
Commander of the Fifth Mechanized Division of the Northern Command, Captain Emmanuel Bellett, said: “The head of the security and militia of the People’s Liberation Front for the Liberation of Tigrayans was arrested, and he was hiding in a refugee camp in the Shire town.”
He added, “The detainee was the right hand of the leader of the Front, and they are accused of committing countless murders and intimidation in the cities of Bakir, Qatta and Hamira.”
He continued: “The detainee was assigned the full responsibility of leading the war, but he left his weapon behind in the end, and fled to the town of Shire, where he was arrested.”
Pelet said, “The arrested person is responsible for the massacre of members of the National Defense Forces in the Mahaleya area, and that the army is pursuing all the elements of these militias to bring them to justice.”
In early November, the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the launch of a military operation in the northern Tigray region against the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, which he accused of attacking military targets, and by the end of the same month, the government army had taken control of Mekele, the capital of the region.
