The European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Ylva Johansen, called on the local and national authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to work on solving the problem of 900 migrants stranded in the region of Libya.
This call came during a phone call made by Johansen with the Prime Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zoran Tleninga, in an attempt to find a solution for those who live in very bad conditions, especially during the winter, where snow and bitter cold.
The Commissioner indicated in her “tweet” on “Twitter” that “we need a practical, immediate and clear solution to alleviate the suffering of those stranded and deserve a worthy shelter for people.”
The Commission proposes to the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to reopen the Bira Center, funded by Brussels, and which accommodates 1,500 people and contains adequate heating and infrastructure.
The European institutions have been criticized for not moving quickly to pressure the authorities in Bosnia to deal with the problem of migrants in Libya.
