For his part, European Council President Charles Michel stressed that there cannot be double standards in dealing with both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Michel stated that Israel must use its right to defend itself within the framework of international law and international humanitarian law.
He pointed out that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is horrific, calling for a humanitarian halt to the conflict and the establishment of humanitarian corridors. He renewed the European Union’s support for countries in the region such as Egypt and Jordan.
