The European Union considered that Washington’s designation of the “Ansar Allah” Houthi movement in Yemen as a terrorist organization would “complicate the United Nations’ efforts to reach a settlement of the conflict in the country.”
In a statement, the federation declared that “the United States’ designation of Ansar Allah as an external terrorist organization with three of its leaders threatens to make the United Nations efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement of the conflict in Yemen more difficult.”
He added, “This will complicate the necessary diplomatic communication with Ansar Allah, and the work of the international community on political, humanitarian and development issues.”
The Federation expressed its particular concern “about the impact of this decision on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which is currently facing the imminent danger of widespread famine.”
He said, “This classification could have the effects of impeding the delivery of humanitarian aid financed by the international community, and exacerbate the economic crisis that resulted from five years of conflict.”
The union pointed out that “it will remain convinced that only a comprehensive political solution can end the conflict in Yemen, and will continue to enhance dialogue between all parties.”
He stressed that, “in coordination with the international community, it stands ready to support efforts to reduce the impact of that classification on aid delivery and the economy, with a special focus on the ability of the private sector to operate.”
